True with pupils

Trudy has congratulated an award-winning school for their work to improve mindfulness.

Gosforth Primary School has achieved first place in the ‘Most Positive Long Term Impact’ category in the annual Bright Stars challenge; the Mini Book of Mindfulness they created is filled with advice for improved mental wellbeing, including suggestions for walks, recipes and activities.

Trudy visited Gosforth School to speak with Year 6 pupils about her role as Member of Parliament for Copeland and a Minister in Defra, and used the opportunity to learn more about their Bright Stars project.

Trudy said: “It was a pleasure to visit Gosforth School, and I offer my huge congratulations to the pupils for producing such an excellent book that is filled with fabulous ideas to promote positivity and mental wellbeing.

“I was extremely impressed by the pupils’ interest in and knowledge of Parliament and the democratic process, and the well though-out questions they asked.

"I was also pleased to see how passionate the pupils are about climate change, the environment and our wildlife, and it was heartening to learn about the measures they are all taking in school and at home to halt the decline of nature, including making hibernaculums in their Forest School.

“I also came away with a fabulous recipe for nettle crisps thanks to one of the more adventurous pupils!”

Sarah Layzell, Year 6 Teacher, said: “The children worked collaboratively to produce the contents for the booklet and learnt valuable lessons on what it is like to run a business.”
